THE Bank Holiday weekend saw the annual gathering on the fast Cockermouth time trial course with the Nelson Wheelers and Rossendale Road Club.
Over the weekend, the wheelers organise a 10-mile race, and Rossendale a 25.
The events are open, and any rider in an affiliated club can ride, but it is also a social gathering for friends and family in the beautiful Lake District.
Both events were won by Mark Holton with professional standard times.
The first Wheeler home on the 10 was Chris Smedley in 22.41, which gave him ninth place in a first class field.
Steve Wilkinson was narrowly beaten Ian Wilcock by seven seconds with a time of 23.29.
Pendle Forest’s Jason Bateman had a great ride of 20.38 to come second in the race.
Peter Haigh returned to racing and did a commendable 25.18.
Peter has been one of the top riders in the north of England in the last 10 years and is returning after a break and it is hoped that the club will see more of him this year.
The following day had poor weather conditions with strong wind and rain.
On this day Steve Wilkinson narrow beat Ian Wilcock by 2 seconds with a time of 1.01.52.
Craig Wilson had a great ride in the worst of the conditions to obtain a personal best with 1.09.52, beating local Cycle Sport Pendle rider Carl Pawson by just under half a minute.
On Wednesday night, the evening league continued on the Kildwick course.
Unfortunately the event had to be cancelled due to poor light and rain.
The organisers had little choice but to cancel the event as safety is paramount to cycle racing and the club.
This event will continue through the summer with a signing on time at 6-45 p.m. at Kildwick.
