DOCTORS in Pendle are urging people to think ahead and plan their health care before the upcoming Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Bank Holiday weekend.

GP practices will be closed from Friday, June 1st, up to and including Tuesday, June 5th, and pharmacies will be on a limited rota. To find out which of your local pharmacies will be open over the Diamond Jubilee period then please go to: http://www.eastlancspct.nhs.uk/patients/feeling-unwell/ or www.bwd.nhs.uk/public-health/bank-holiday-information/

As a result of this, patients are being urged to book GP appointments early if they are feeling unwell and to make sure they order and collect their repeat prescriptions to ensure that they don’t run out of medication over the especially long weekend.

Dr David White, GP lead for Urgent Care for East Lancashire Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) said: “If people are feeling unwell and the symptoms are not easing, we are urging them to book an appointment with their GP and not to leave it until the condition worsens as then they may not be able to get an appointment and will end up having to attend out of hours facilities which are for use in urgent cases.

“If people are unsure whether they need to see a GP then they can call their surgery for advice or call 111 for free from landlines or mobiles. Patients are also urged to visit their local pharmacist in the first instance for more minor ailments such as coughs, colds or hay fever.”
