Police are appealing for witnesses after a 64-year-old Nelson man was left unconscious and needing 12 stitches for facial injuries after an assault in Marsden Park.
The assault took place between 2 p.m. and 3-15 p.m. on Monday when the man, who was walking his three dogs at the time, became involved in a verbal argument with another dog walker.
It is thought the man received more than one blow to the face and he was hospitalised overnight after being knocked unconscious.
He required eight stitches to cuts on his forehead, four on the bridge of his nose and cuts to the inside of his lip.
Police would like to speak to a white male, approximately 50-years-old, around 5ft. 8in. tall, of slim build and blond, greying hair who was seen walking a brown Staffordshire Bull terrier type dog with a yellow collar. He was seen with two females at the time, one of which was pushing a pram.
Anybody with any information should contact PC Ann Carter of Nelson police on 101 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
