Burwain’s endurance race success

YOUNG Burwain Sailors had much success at Hollingworth Lake Sailing Club’s annual eight-hour race on Saturday.

The event is supported by the Royal Yachting Association as part of its On Board scheme to get children into sailing and dinghy racing.

This year there were two race run in parallel, one for novice sailors with less than two years’ experience and another open to anyone under 18.

There were teams from sailing clubs throughout the North West taking part, each team being of six sailors with two being in the team boat at any one time.

The weather was warm and sunny but the winds vwere ery strong making it a gruelling race this year.

The Burwain teams used their heavy weather skills honed on Burwain Lake to good effect and were victorious in both races.

There were a lot of happy children and proud parents at the prizegiving.

All the sailors in the event learned to sail at Burwain’s Sailfish Club and each year the club is looking to introduce a new group of youngsters to the sport.

Interested parents and children are invited to come to Burwain Sailing Club’s open day on Saturday, June 9th to find out more and have a go at sailing.
