Year 4 pupils from five Pendle schools took part in a Pendle Schools Tennis Festival at Pendle Leisure Centre, Colne.
Barnoldswick Church School, Higham, Kelbrook, Primet and St Philip’s Primary Schools each sent 10 pupils to compete in the event, which had to be moved from its orignal venue at Marsden Park , Nelson, due to rain. A total of 19 matches were played by the enthusiastic competitors, with Barnoldswick Church School finishing with the most points to win the event.
The festival followed a coaching initiative across Pendle organised by Joe Cooney, Pendle Leisure Trust’s Sports Development Manager, who said: “Pupils have the opportunity to mix with children from other areas of Pendle and make new friends. At the end of the festival, each child received a medal for taking part.”
Tennis sessions will run from June 9th at Alkincoats Park, Colne, from 10 a.m. to noon. Each session costs £2, with those aged eight to nine invited from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. and those aged 10 and over between 11 a.m. and noon. Contact Pendle Leisure Trust Sports Development on 661225 for details.
