Woman accused after bypass death of dog walker

A WOMAN driver has been charged with killing a pedestrian on the Padiham Barrowford by-pass.

Grandfather Stuart Mather was taking a tea-time walk on Monday, June 6th, last year when he died with his dog, Hamish, at his side. The collision happened near Higham Hall Road and Fir Trees Lane, Higham.

Kay Nolan (44), of Merlinwood, Thornton-in-Craven, Skipton, appeared before Burnley Magistrates’ Court charged with causing his death by dangerous driving. The case was sent to Burnley Crown Court for a hearing on April 16th.

Mr Mather, who was 60 and lived in Leet Road, Higham, was a member of East Lancs CAMRA and a supporter of Lowerhouse Cricket Club and Burnley Football Club. He left his mother, two sons and grandson.
