A NEW war memorial has been built in Laneshaw Bridge to coincide with the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.
The memoriial was officially opened on Sunday by the Mayor of Pendle, Coun. Asjad Mahmood.
It will enable villagers to pay tribute to local war heroes at the memorial, which sits in a new Jubilee Garden opposite the Emmott Arms.
The garden features six semi-mature trees, one for each decade of the Queen’s reign, and a slate “dug out” area which has the war memorial as its centrepiece.
The project was funded by Preston-based Conlon Construction with support from Pendle Council and other local organisations including Laneshaw Bridge Parish Council and Colne Connected.
Construction Director Michael Conlon said: “Conlon is delighted to be able to provide a new war memorial for the people of Laneshawbridge. It was a pleasure to build a centrepiece for the village and create a place where people can reflect and pay tribute for many years to come.”
Laneshaw Bridge’s Pendle councillor, Paul White, said: “It’s been about five years in the planning for this project and if Conlon Construction hadn’t come forward, it would never have happened. The standard of work has been fantastic and it is something the village will treasure for generations.”
Conlon Construction is also constructing the new £4m. Laneshaw Bridge Primary School.
