BARROWFORD were left frustrated as both league games were abandoned on Saturday due to the weather.

However the first team travelled to local rivals Foulridge in the second round of the Wynn Cup on Sunday.

Foulridge won the toss and elected to bat, and once again Barrowford’s openers Matthew Clark and Chris Platt performed well with the new ball, taking early wickets.

Platt dismissed the Foulridge danger man David Spokes with a classy delivery which took the outside edge and was snatched behind by the ever-reliable Simon Jones.

Clark (4-30) and Platt (3-22) ensured the home side could only post a modest 140.

Foulridge captain Chris Brooker-Carey provided the only resistance with a well-made 74.

Despite early optimism, Barrowford lost several wickets cheaply and were struggling at 60-5.

Nabeel Ahmed anchored the innings and was well supported by Simon Jones as the pair looked to dig in and rebuild the innings.

Jones was unlucky not to see the chase home as he was caught behind with the scores level for a gutsy 28.

Ahmed once again proved to be Barrowford’s saviour, ensuring victory with 59 not out.

Barrowford Cricket Club would like to thank Barrowford County Primary School for their match ball sponsorship this week.

Tomorrow both teams look to continue their impressive league form as the first team travel to Bingley Congs whilst the second team host Skipton CI.
