Hole in one for Josh at Ghyll Golf Club

AT Ghyll, the S.Kynaston Memorial Trophy produced a hole in one at the 212-yard Mast Hole by Josh Riley.

Meanwhile, the ladies played their fifth medal of the season last Tuesday, won by Susan Tattersall (85-14-71).

In second place was in-form Deslay Mitchell with 108-36 72, losing a shot to handicap.

Desley also won the Thompson trophy, played for in conjunction with the medal by ladies with a handicap of 33 or above.

Third was Eva Brown with 99-24-75.

• LAST year’s merit winner Val Turpin won the second medal at Colne in wet and rainy conditions with a score of 98-23-75, with Joan Finley a shot behind (99-23-76), beating the in-form Irene Lonsdale (101-25-76) on a card play-off.

Also at Colne the re-arranged Millenium Trophy was won by Freda Lester with a score of 34 points, followed by Debra Woods (32) and Bev Wellock (31).

The Bronze team, represented by Lady Captain Stella Kitson, Marie Lonsdale, Freda Lester and Anne Graham, kept their hopes high by drawing their home fixture with Blackburn. The team stands joint top of their relative league with two games to play.

At Walmsley, Tina Fishwick and Liz Gornall qualified to represent the East Lancashire Division in the Scott Leggatt finals to be played at Leyland in July. However, the afternoon’s atrocious conditions got the better of Eileen Foulds and Liz Reddy and Cheryl Barnes and Eva Pinder who failed to qualify.

• NELSON’S ladies held a friendly match at home to Greenmount, in an overall team stableford, and won 224-162.

Last Thursday, the Frances Smith Qualifier and Medal was won by Lynne Grandfield (81-8-73) from Jane McGregor (82-7-75) and Stella Newton (94-18-76).

Lynne qualified to play in the LLCGA Frances Smith event at Clitheroe, with Carol Jeffries as reserve.

• AT Marsden Park, many braved adverse weather for the Fourball Better Ball Stableford.

The men’s event was won by M. Horsfield and S. Mulligan (42 points), from R. Shaun and A. Harwood (41) and L. Shaw and D. Keddick (39).

Ladies’ winners were Jane. McGregor and Eva Pinder (36 points), ahead of J. Kelly and D. Shaw (34).
