BURNLEY are yet to receive any offers for captain Chris McCann.
The Dubliner, who turns 25 on Saturday, has attracted interest from Premier League and Championship clubs, and it was thought that Norwich City would step up that interest with a firm seven-figure bid.
However, that has failed to materialise as of yet, although new Canaries boss Chris Hughton remains keen to add to his summer captures of Rangers’ Steven Whittaker and Barnsley’s Jacob Butterfield.
McCann had interested Swansea, while Brendan Rodgers was still at the helm, but after taking up the reins at Anfield, that trail went cold.
The former Republic of Ireland Under-19 international signed a new contract at Turf Moor last summer, and was made skipper, going on to start 45 Championship games before having a clause in his contract activated to extend his contract to next summer.
Burnley run the risk of losing him on a free transfer next summer, unless they can tie him to an extended deal, or sell him in either this transfer window, or in January.
McCann has made 225 appearances for the club, scoring 26 goals, having joined the club as a youngster from Home Farm in Ireland, and made his first team debut in August 2005.
Meanwhile, progress is slow as Clarets boss Eddie Howe looks to add to his three summer captures.
Howe has already landed Mansfield Town full-back Luke O’Neill, Leyton Orient wideman George Porter and Derby County centre-back Jason Shackell, but the transfer market has slowed again after that brief spurt of activity.
Ahead of Saturday’s first first team friendly at Altrincham, Howe has no injury problems to report, after just over a week back in pre-season training.
And yesterday he welcomed back defender David Edgar, who was given special dispensation to return to training later than the rest of his team mates due to his international schedule with Canada over the summer.
Edgar has had an extra 10 days’ rest after featuring in three international games in June, against the United States, Cuba and Honduras.
On Saturday, the Development Squad started their warm-up games with a 2-0 win at Mossley’s Seel Park, with Joe Jackson and Wes Fletcher on target.
Jackson, who earlier this month signed a new one-year deal, headed in a Steve Hewitt corner after only three minutes, before Fletcher sealed the win, turning to find the bottom corner, late on.
The Development Squad are next in action at Barrow on Thursday.
Burnley lined up: Mitchell (Jakovlevs 46), Williams (Errington 71), Coleman, Anderson, Conlan, Hewitt, Love (Gallagher 78), Lazaar (Evans 59), McCartan, Fletcher, Jackson (Gilchrist 78).
