PENDLE AC’s Leah Hillman made the junior girls’ javelin final in the ESSA Track and Field Championships in Gateshead last Saturday.
Representing Lancashire Schools in the annual English Schools’ event, she finished eighth out of 18m, with a throw of 30.08m - a superb effort considering six of the top eight girls were from the upper junior girls’ age group and will have moved up next year.
Neng Wildman, also from Pendle, also had a great day but unfortunately didn’t manage to qualify for the 200m intermediate boys’ final - although he set a new personal best time of 23.15s.
At the weekend, Leah also entered the Northern Championships in Hull - a tough competition with several of the top athletes in the country competing - and won bronze in the shot putt and silver in the Under 15s’ javelin, adding a new PB of 28.15m in the hammer.
