LADIES at Colne competed for Mr Captain’s Prize at the weekend, and Anne Bradbury’s excellent 85-14-71 was four shots ahead of Lady Secretary Val Turpin (98-23-75).
Third prize went to Sue Catlow on a card play-off with a score of 96-21-75.
On Saturday, the WJ Harrison Trophy was won by Dean Foxcroft (76-10-66) from Guy Bretherton (69-3-66) and Tony Ingram (80-10-70). The gross prize went to Brian Earnshaw.
The next day, during the Mens Invitation competition Paul Tems, playing alongside Andrew Birtwistle from Nelson, in the same fourball as Eric Dale and Alex Cocker, recorded his first hole in one at the 148-yard seventh hole, using his nine iron to good effect. Unfortunately it did not spur their four-ball onto winning scores!
• THE Nelson Gents’ Professional’s Prize was won by G. Potter (74-9-65) after cards from R. Curwen (70-5-65).
The 13-28 section went to D. Bradbury (82-13-69), again on a card play-off.
Best gross was Nick Uttley’s 70.
The ladies of Nelson travelled to Heysham last week to meet Pleasington in the final of the Eastern section of the Lancashire Ladies’ County Golf Association’s Handicap team competition. All seven matches were closely contested, but Pleasington won when they recorded the magic fourth point.
