THE family and friends of Foulridge farmer Andrew Wilson - who died at the end of last year - made a Beat the Bounds of Foulridge walk in his memory.

His daughter Rachel Wilson, who lives in Barnoldswick, is office manager for the Brain Tumour Research and Support Across Yorkshire charity.

She said: “We put our fund-raising target for this event at £100, and thanks to Potter and Hill Cafe, and Inghams butchers supporting us with sponsor forms, the event raised a whopping £913!”

Rachel got support from people in Barnoldswick, too.

This takes the Wilson family fund-raising total to just above £15,000 and Rachel said: “It was a great day with lots of smiles and happy memories.

“All of the money we have raised has gone to Brain Tumour Research and Support, who co-fund a laboratory at the Leeds Institute of Molecular Medicine.

“Currently, only 0.7% of central cancer research funding is allocated to brain tumour research, so it falls to charities such as BTRS to raise funds for much needed research.

“We would like to see better outlooks for patients diagnosed with high grade (malignant) brain tumours, the median survival time upon diagnosis is 14 months - dad only survived four months. Only through research can changes in treatment and prognosis happen.”
