Hapton woman’s dying wish to marry - can you help?

A HAPTON woman who was diagnosed with cancer twice in seven months has been forced to bring forward her wedding after doctors gave her the devastating news she has just months to live.

Now friends of 31-year-old primary school teacher Kathy Nutter are trying to organise her big day so she can fulfil her final wish and marry fiance Carl Morris in February.

The ceremony had been booked for April 10th but two days before Christmas Kathy, who lives with Carl in Bridgefield Street, was told the disease is terminal.

Her friends have raised more than £2,000 to help towards the cost of the wedding but there is still a lot of planning to do. And the Express is appealing to local businesses to make Kathy’s dream come true.

Kathy had ordered a wedding dress from a shop in London which had offered it free but it will not be ready in time for February.

Friend Leah Massey said: “Kathy is quite bright at the moment. She wanted a normal Christmas but her mobility is causing her problems as the cancer has spread to her spine.

“We are trying to find Kathy a dress.”

The couple will marry at Bolton School, Bolton, and hold their reception at Accrington Town Hall.

Kathy, a former Habergham High School pupil, was told she had cervical cancer in November 2010. She underwent gruelling chemotherapy and radiotherapy to shrink a tumour the size of a lemon and, last May, went into remission.

But, just a month later, doctors revealed she had secondary cancer in her leg.

The Express reported in November how the couple were struggling financially as Kathy had to give up her job.

Leah (27) and two other friends, Yvette Jameson (28) and Sam Simpson (24), organised a fund-raising evening at The Railway Inn, Hapton, and packed bags at Sainsbury’s to help with the cost of the wedding.

They are now trying to get Kathy a dress, flowers and tableware for the event.

“It’s her last wish to get married to Carl and she is focusing on that now,” said Leah.

“She wants to keep it as close to the original plans as possible.”
