CHARLIE Austin scores a hat-trick as Burnley hit Peterborough for five.
The game started at a fast pace and the Clarets could have been ahead after just a couple of minutes when neat play between Stanislas and Paterson left Austin with the goal at his mercy, but the striker could only hit his shot at the bar.
Peterborough could have taken the lead just a minute later, George Boyd managed to find Tyrone Barnett, but his shot was fantastically saved by Grant in the Burnley goal.
Burnley did take the lead though on the seventh minute, a fantastic pinpoint cross from Joseph Mills found Chris McCann unmarked who headed past Olejnik for his first league goal of the season.
The Clarets had numerous chances to double their lead, none better than when Paterson turned in the box and forced a save out of Olejnik who turned the ball round the post.
With the Clarets seemingly in complete control of the game, Peterborough were awarded a penalty after Michael Duff brought down Mendez-Laing, Tomlin stepped up to take the penalty and low and hard to Grants right to level the game.
Mendez-Laing then put Posh in the lead after out muscling Trippier and shooting under Grant, giving Peterborough a lead they barely deserved.
With time on the clock running down Austin burst into the box, dummied a shot then took aim, his effort looked on target, but the Posh defence made sure to level matters once more at Turf Moor.
Burnley could have gone into the break in the lead, Trippier hitting a 35-yard screamer which forced Olejnik into a save tipping over the bar.
The second half started at a much slower pace than the first, Ross Wallace having the best chance of the early stages after a defensive mistake left the winger with an opportunity, be he volleyed wide.
Martin Paterson was next to try his luck, after being put one-on-one with Olejnik, but under pressure he hit his shot straight at the Posh keeper.
Burnley did eventually re-take the lead, after good work from Chris McCann he played a short ball to Austin who made no mistake blasting into the back of the net.
Minutes later Austin won himself a penalty and effectively the game after Olejnik brought down the striker. Austin dusted himself down and made no mistake from the spot to send the Clarets faithful into raptures.
The three points were sealed with just four minutes remaining after Cameron Stewart tried to bend the ball around the Posh keeper, Olejnik made a brilliant save, but only to the feet of Junior Stanislas who shot low and hard to score his second goal of the season and the fifth of an emphatic victory.
