THE Howard Rigg Golf Day at Nelson Golf Club raised £2,000 for charity, with the money to be donated to Pendleside Hospice.
The morning fourball winners were Trevor Dickinson and Tom Hardman with 24 points.
Morning prizes were donated by Ray Whittle and Dave Smith.
The Howard Rigg Trophy was competed for in the afternoon, with 14 teams of four taking part.
The winning team comprising of Trevor Dickinson, Ian Mathews, George Balmforth and club president John Dinsdale scored 125 points, one more than runners-up Alan Waddington, Ron Dunn, Derek Davies and Howard Rigg.
During the evening, a carvery was served by club caterer Andrew Duxbury followed by the pize presentation.
Various items were donated for auction, which was conducted by Terry Robbins.
The evening was concluded with entertainment from comedian Mike Farrell.
Rigg would like to thank the groundstaff for the excellent condition of the course, Harvey Thompson, Ray Baron, Terry Robbins and Dave Smith for their organisation and runnning of the day’s competitions, and Nelson Golf Club, along with Andrea and all bar staff.
• AT Nelson on Thursday, the Medal and Joan Allen Seniors’ Trophy was contested. Past Lady Captain Chris Irlam (104-36-68) reduced her handicap by five!
The Joan Allen Seniors’ Trophy was won by Sylvia Broughton (103-30-73), dropping her handicap by one. Third was Sophie Potter (83-10-73).
The Gents’ Autumn Trophy was won by I. Cutler (79-16-63) on the card. The 0-12 Division went to P. Bradbury (76-10-66), and O. Thomas (88-25-63) won the 13-28 division. Best gross was Nick Uttley’s 68.
The Open Mixed Team Stableford was won by A. and J. Green, B Spargo, (Burnley) and C. Fletcher (Nelson) with 77 points.
Joe Flannagan is through to the semi-final of the Blackburn and Darwen Junior Singles Knockout, after a 5+4 win over Darwen’s Matt Lawrence.
He will face Rossendale’s Sam Grcar in the last four as a venue to be decided.
