A GOOD field of players from Burnley, Colne, Ghyll, Marsden Park and Nelson braved testing conditions with high wind and rain at Glen View last Wednesday, playing for the Burnley and Pendle Junior Summer League’s Bill Lemmon Shield.
The boys and girls were playing for individual glory after a difficult season of team matches which has seen Nelson victorious for the fourth year in a row, Burnley runners-up and Colne in third.
Showing the rest of the field the way was James Landless of Ghyll, who came in late in the day to crush the opposition with 45 Stableford points, even after failing to score at the first hole into the teeth of the gale!
Second was James Hennigan of Burnley, resplendent in new pink team shirt, with 42 points, third was Harry Stanworth of Nelson with 34, fourth Liam Dixon of Burnley with 33, and fifth Max Smith of Nelson on 32 points.
Organisers from the clubs are already hard at work looking forward to next season and would like to welcome new juniors to their growing ranks, in the search for the next Rory McIlroy or Yani Tseng!
At Nelson, the Annual Seniors v Juniors match resulted in a slender one-point winning margin for the Seniors, 207 points to 206.
The juniors beat the ladies by 251 points to 209 in a fourball better ball competition.
The Texas Scramble at Nelson was won by C. Waddington, G. Potter, A. Fothergill and M. Arnold with 56-1.6-54.4, from G. Plant, D. Robinson, T. Hardman and D. Bailey (61-6.4-54.6).
Third were D. Bertram, M. Phillips, D. Clarkin and C. Clarkin (57-1.7-55.3).
The Gents’ Turkey Shoot was won by G. Smith and G. Ramsbottom with 45 points, two clear of N. Charlton and R. Shaun, who were second on the card from D. Bertram and G. Potter.
