Have your say on council matters

PENDLE Council is inviting local people to suggest the local issues and services which they think its scrutiny team should look at with a view to making improvements.

Is there something you think could be done better? If so, the team wants to hear about it. Chairman Coun. Graham Roach explained: “As always, we want to make sure we continue to look at the issues that matter most to people in Pendle.

“We can only be sure we’re doing this if you tell us what they are.”

In the past year or two, scrutiny studies have looked into all sorts of issues that affect people in Pendle.

The impact of last year’s review of Pendle Leisure Trust’s sporting facilities, for example, is now being felt as the phased refurbishment and replacement of changing and showering facilities at each of the three major sports centres has begun at Pendle Wavelengths.

The ramp now provided at Brierfield Town Hall to help those who aren’t very mobile is another result of scrutiny intervention.

The team is also pursuing issues around the revitalisation of Pendle’s town centres. It has recently published its report which seeks to implement a range of measures designed to bring new uses into vacant space.

Recently, a panel has embarked on a review which will look at youth employment in an effort to find out what more can be done to give Pendle’s young people a better opportunity of finding appropriate full time work.

Kath Haydock, the council’s Scrutiny Manager, said: “It would be helpful to hear from anyone who feels that there is a particular service or issue where scrutiny could make a difference.”

If you would like to suggest a topic for consideration by the scrutiny team during 2013/14, you can pick up a form from council reception areas or complete one on the website at www.pendle.gov.uk/scrutinyrequest.

Alternatively you can contact Kath Haydock, who can send out a request form in the post, on 661607 or you can email scrutiny@pendle.gov.uk.

The deadline for sending in suggestions is Thursday, February 28th.
