LUKE Edwards’ broken ankle brought a premature end to Colne and Nelson’s trip to Chorley on Saturday.
On a bitterly cold afternoon, the All Blacks travelled the short distance to Chorley, and both teams started slowly.
Most of the rugby was played in the middle of the park for the first 20 minutes.
The conditions were, as always, atrocious with Chorley using the familiar conditions to their greatest advantage.
After 20 minutes of elite forward rugby from both sides, the well-drilled Chorley backs created space and found the try line.
With the All Blacks holding their heads high and showing great determination, they unfortunately missed key tackles that hampered Colne’s progress, allowing Chorley to cross the line three more times before the half.
Despite being adrift by four tries, Colne displayed their famous never say die attitude and set about attacking Chorley’s line with great success.
Colne slowly found themselves battering their way to the 22-metre line with fantastic scrimmaging and lineouts, giving them the advantage for the second half of the game.
Unfortunately this advantage was short lived as flanker Edwards tripped over his shoelace and thankfully only managed to break his ankle.
As he was incapacitated on the pitch, the game was postponed leading to the team having to make the decision between playing on or calling it a day.
Due to the wait for the Ambulance Service, light was against Colne, and not wanting to risk any more injury, the game was cut short, giving Chorley the well-deserved lead they created early on.
Tomorrow Colne face their rescheduled match against Eagle at home.
