TEn-man Nelson fell to defeat on Saturday as skipper Chris Turner was dismissed for dissent before half-time.
Manager Mark Fell made one change to the side that beat Holker Old Boys on Boxing Day, as Adnan Ahmed replaced Darren McKenzie.
And the Blues came close to opening the scoring in their first attack as Liam Hutchinson set up Pakistan international Ahmed, whose snap shot rebounded back offthe post.
But the hosts began to mount some pressure, and Simon Howard put them ahead when he headed past the outstretched hands of Jamie Scott from a free kick, before a fine saving tackle from Danny Johnson denied Mitch Leece a second.
Midway through the half, Collieries doubled their lead when Paul Atherton drileld a shot past Scott from 12 yards.
Atherton’s direct style was causing the Blues all sorts of problems,, and on the half hour a mis-kick in the area presented the hosts with their third goal, a gift gratefully accepted by Danny Smith.
Minutes later Nat Taylor was upended in the Atherton area and Ashley Higgins easily beat the keeper from the spot.
This led to Nelson’s best spell of the half, however, influential captain Turner was sent off shortly before the break for words directed at the referee.
On the resumption of play, a Blues free kick into the danger area led to a nasty head in jury to Johnson, who was replaced by Iain Robinson, making his debut.
Nelson’s 10 men were coping well at this stage, and they further reduced the arrears when Higgins turned his marker and fired home his second of the game.
Minutes later he was set up by Matty Fearon, but he blazed over.
The Blues were holding their own, but beginning to tire, and a change saw Pat O’Brien come on for Hutchinson.
On 67 minutes, Atherton broke away and Smith beat Scott from 25 yards.
The hosts began to dominate, and in a last attempt to salvage something from the game, McKenzie came on for Higgins.
Almost immediately, a slip from Danny Finch led to Paul Atherton making it 5-2, and Scott then made a fantastic save to deny sub Andy Walker.
At the death Nelson were still creating chances, and O’Brien shot narrowly wide.
The final scoreline flattered the hosts as the Blues competed well, with Higgins named man of the match.
