EARBY Cricket Club feel they have signed a star of the future in new professional Fahid Rehman.
The club this week announced the signing of the promising youngster for the 2013 Ribblesdale League season, replacing prolific Pakistani runmaker Ali Azmat, who had been paid man with the club since the 2006 season.
The 21-year-old is tipped to shine in the First Class game, and has already caught the eye of coaching staff at Durham County Cricket Club.
As a youth he has represented Yorkshire at Under 15 and Under 19 level.
He is to play with Earby as he completes his studies to qualify as an optician.
He is a left-hand batsman who also bowls medium/fast and has produced some impressive performances in his short senior career.
During the 2011 season, he scored over 1,000 runs for Saltaire in the Bradford League – rated one of the top cricket leagues in Yorkshire – and went on to be named the league’s Young Player of the Year last season.
Recent winners of that Young Player title have gone on the play county cricket.
His highest score is 202 not out for Bradford University against Sunderland University in the quarter-final of the Inter-University Cup.
Committee member Peter Wear said: “Fahid has a great personality and we think we have found a great prospect for the club.
“He has already produced some superb performances in one of the toughest cricket leagues and we are sure he will make a great contribution to the club.”
