GENEROUS customers at Burnley’s Marks and Spencer store helped to raise £16,414 for Pendleside Hospice in the run-up to Christmas.
More than 200 volunteers gave up two hours of their time to cover the 300 bag packing shifts in return for donations from shoppers. It is the sixth consecutive year that bag packers in the store have raised money for the hospice and the total is £2,000 up on last year.
Hospice fund-raising manager Mrs Kaye Bartle said: “We are absolutely delighted with the amount raised from the 2011 Marks and Spencer bag packing – it is amazing to raise such a fantastic amount of money considering the current economic climate.
“We want to thank all the customers of Marks and Spencer who showed their generosity by putting money into our collecting buckets and all our volunteers that gave up their time to make this such a big success. We also thank Marks and Spencer and all their staff for inviting us in store at their busiest time of year.”
