Saints open up gap at top of Nelson and District Semi-Snooker League First Division

IN the Nelson and District Semi-Snooker League First Division, St Andrew’s have opened up a five-point lead at the top after a 4-1 away win over Old Band A.

Andy Marshall ran out on the colours for Old Band to beat Wayne Cotterill in the final frame.

Inactive Poultry B lie second, with Poultry A moving into third spot despite losing at home to Alexandra, for whom Darren Jackson had a run of 35.

At 2-2, John Lanceley overcame Chris Jordan in the deciding frame for a 3-2 win.

Elsewhere, James Waddington had a break of 42 for Lamb B, who ended up 4-1 away winners over Carters A, and Eric Catlow had a run of 42 for Paradise A, who lost out at home to Briercliffe 3-2.

Liberal A came away from Worsthorne with a 3-2 win and Lamb A are back to winning ways with the return of their captain Graham Parker as they saw off Burnley Miners with a 3-2 home result.

In the Second Division, Chris Lawson had a break of 47, and team mate Jonathan Bennett a run of 37 for White Lea Head, who emerged 4-1 away winners over at Molly Rigby’s and now hold an eight-point lead at the top.

Ronnie Peden had a run of 29 for second-placed Colne Dressers in their 3-2 home win over Byerden B, and in third place are Shorthomers B, who came away from Liberal B with a 3-2 win.

There were 3-2 home wins for St Andrew’s B, Dressers D and Tacklers A over Dressers E, Paradise B and Nelson Golf Club respectively.

In the Third Division, Shorthomers D got the better of their C team with a 3-2 result which puts both teams at the top on level points.

Poultry D let things slip and lost out to an in-form Lamb D outfit who ended up 5-0 winners, and put Poultry into third place.

Old Band C made all the running down at the Church Street to overcome Lamb C by a 4-1 majority, with veteran Derek Driver managing to win the final frame for Lamb.

Elsewhere Brian Large put in a break of 43 for Molly Rigby’s A, who came away from Dressers B with a 4-1 win, while Tacklers B secured a 3-2 home win over David Street B, and Tacklers C came back from Foulridge Social Club with a 3-2 win.
