a PENDLE primary school which provides for more than 60 pupils with a wide range of special educational needs has gained an “outstanding” rating from Ofsted inspectors.

Pendle View Primary School, in Gibfield Road, Colne, was inspected just before Christmas and gained top marks in all aspects and was found to have improved considerably since the last inspection, when it was judged to be good overall.

The inspectors found that the quality of teaching was outstanding, with lessons which were interesting and exciting resources to enable the children to be active in their learning.

Pupils were said to make good and often outstanding progress in their learning and many pupils make above expected rates of progress. Behaviour was also found to be excellent.

The inspectors’ report describes school staff as a “tightly knit team” who are led outstandinghly well by the impressive headteacher and deputy headteacher, who are driving forward improvements at a pace.

In addition, the governors are also complimented on their strong leadership of the school.

Headteracher Debbie Morris said: “We were quite overwhelmed and ecstatic about the inspection result.

“It made the hard work that all of our staff have put into our school, so worthwhile and we are very proud of our achievement.

“The timing of the inspection, just before Christmas, made the outcome the best Christmas present we could have wished for – however, we had to keep it a secret, because the report wasn’t published until the New Year!

“I would like to say a very big ‘thank you’ to our pupils, parents, staff and governors who have supported us over the years, worked extremely hard and helped us to become the outstanding school that we are today.”
