A POLICE firearms officer suffered a neck injury and was taken to hospital after the police car he was driving was involved in an accident on Burnley Road, Colne, on Saturday evening.
He was in a lot of pain but it has now been established he did not have serious injuries.
It happened by the Golden Ball Inn at just before 6pm. The firearms car travelling from Nelson towards Colne stopped in a queue of traffic. Another car stopped behind it but then an Audi struck the second vehicle, which as a result hit the police car and hurt the driver.
An ambulance was called to the scene and the crew carefully downloaded the policeman in case he had a broken neck, and placed him on a stretcher before taking him to hospital. But he did have very minor injuries despite his pain. And the other officer in the car was unhurt at the time and aided his colleague.
As a result of the rescue, traffic on the main road was affected for a while.
