A BURNLEY-BORN TV star has called on thousands of fun-runners to join in the Pennine Lancashire 10K.

Emmerdale actress Nicola Wheeler urged people of all ages to don their trainers and take part in the charity road race in Burnley this summer.

The soap star, who plays character Nicola King in the popular ITV show, hopes people from across the region will be ready to race on June 2nd in the event organised by Jane Tomlinson’s Run For All.

Hopes are than more than 2,000 people will turn out for the charity run and raise more than £100,000 for local charities and the Jane Tomlinson Appeal.

Nicola, who came back to her hometown for the official launch, hopes thousands of runners will make it a brilliant day for Burnley.

She said: “I’m really pleased to be back in Burnley to help launch the new Asda Foundation Run For All Pennine Lancashire 10K.

“It’s a great event for the town which will not only be a brilliant, fun day for thousands of runners but bring in lots of money for some really deserving local charities.”

Nicola, who has run the London Marathon, urged everyone to get involved, saying: “Any run is worthwhile because of the money it raises for charity.

“10K sounds a lot – six miles – it makes me break out in a sweat just thinking about it and I have done marathons.

“It is really do-able. Do it as a group. Keep it fun – you don’t have to run it seriously.”

She was joined by Burnley FC manager Sean Dyche and Clarets star Marvin Bartley in launching the entry process for the race which will take in some of the town’s best-loved landmarks including Rowley Lake, Towneley Hall, Thompson Park and Turf Moor.

Entries for the Pennine Lancashire 10K are open now and cost just £18. To sign up go to {http://www.runforall.com.runforall.com}
