NELSON were without suspended skipper Chris Turner but brought in Adnan Ahmed and the returning Nathan Worrell.

Worrell was soon in action dealing with a couple of high crosses. At the other end a free-kick into Cheadle’s danger area was headed against the post by Barski and the rebound was just put past the opposite post.

On 16 minutes Barski set up stand-in captain Ashley Higgins unmarked but he spooned the chance over the bar.

Nelson were doing all the pressing at this stage, but the visitors’ defence held firm.

On 25 minutes Higgis forced a fine diving save from Stephen Piggott and minutes later Hutchinson fired wide from distance in an isolated Cheadle attack Chris Sherrington rattled the home crossbar with Worrell beaten.

Hutchinson was then brought down in full flight and this led to a booking for number three Ben Roberts. On 37 minutes a mix up in the visitors’ defence presented Higgins with an open goal which he took. Minutes later he carved a good opportunity for himself but shot wide.

The Blues were not to be denied however as on the stroke of half-time a free-kick was floated to the far post and Danny Finch was on hand to double the lead.

As the second half Worrell came to Nelson’s rescue was a brave save at an onrushing forward’s feet. At the opposite end Danny Johnson powered a header at goal but straight at Piggott.

Ben Brooks was then booked for a bad foul on Admed as frustration began to creep into the visitors’ play.

Barski then went on a long jinking run but was foiled on the edge of the penalty area. A Tom Anderosn free-kick set up Finch but his firm header flew wide.

Another change saw Ahmed replaced by Max Jones. This paid immediate dividends as the two substitute combined to notch the Blues’ third goal, as Jones broke down the right and his perfect cross was headed in by McKenzie at the far post.

Cheadle did pull a goal back when Andrew Lindon netted on 80 minutes. Right at death Scott Clarke received a straight red card for violent play, to complete a bad day for the visitors.

Tomorrow, Nelson are at home to Oldham Boro, kick-off 2pm.
