AN elderly man, believed to be in his 80s, was taken to hospital yesterday afternoon after being rescued by firefighters in his Colne home.

Emergency services attended the scene at a farm in Skipton Old Road at 3-05pm.

Three pumps were used to put out the blaze, which started in the kitchen and spread to the bathroom and bedroom. The man is thought to “be doing well”.

Talking after the fire last night, a neighbour said: “It is a gentleman called Jimmy.

“He is alright, and he has gone to hospital. Royal Blackburn Hospital I think.

“The firefighters managed to walk him down the track. I expect he will stay with relatives until he gets better.

“One of the neighbours said there wasn’t a great amount of damage to the farm.”
