ON Sunday, Colne ASC travelled away from the snow and ice and headed to Blackpool for their second fixture in the Micro League of the North West.
Colne were joined at the the Palatine Leisure Centre by hosts Blackpool C and teams from Everton and Kirkham.
Everton dominated the gala, winning with a massive 183 points.
Throughout the course of the gala Colne were taking the challenge to Kirkham and were never more than 10 points adrift, but Kirkham finished second with 121 points.
Colne finished third place on 107 points, with the hosts Blackpool C finishing in a distant fourth on 77 points.
The young Colne swimmers amassed 14 personal bests, split equally between the boys and girls.
Colne’s next fixture is their home fixture on Saturday, May 11th, but due to the pool closure at Pendle Leisure Centre, the fixture has been moved to the West Craven Sports Centre with a start time of 3 p.m.
Last weekend, two swimmers from Colne ASC travelled to the Picton Pool in Wavertree, Liverpool for the third and fourth galas in this year’s British Gas Lancashire County Championships.
Jacob Taylforth, swimming in the nine years age group, finished third in the 200m breaststroke and fourth in the 200m backstroke, and Jasmin Lahey, in the 10 years age group, finished 22nd in the 200m individual medley.
Earlier this month, three swimmers took part in the first two galas at the Manchester Aquatics Centre.
Talyforth won the 50m breaststroke, was 13th in the 200m freestyle, 15th in the 50m backstroke and 21st in the 50m freestyle.
Benjamin Havers-Strong, also swimming in the nine years age group, finished eighth in the 200m freestyle, 10th in the 50m backstroke and 12th in the 50m butterfly.
And Lahey was fourth in the 50m butterfly, ninth in the 400m freestyle, 13th in the 200m freestyle, 23rd in the 50m freestyle and 28th in the 50m backstroke.
Then the club travelled down the M65 to Great Harwood for their first fixture in the North East Lancs Friendly League.
Colne dominated the early stages, and at one point won nine races in a row. The hosts tried to come back late in the contest, but by then it was too late as Colne won 66-52.
Colne’s next fixture is away at Ramsbottom on Monday, April 22nd.
