A Colne father headbutted his girlfriend and then laughed at her, a court heard.

Mark Denton (29) who had drunk around eight cans of lager, bust his partner’s nose in the attack, Pennine Magistrates’ Court was told.

The defendant, of Burnley Road, pleaded guilty to the assault which happened in the early hours of March 23rd. The court was told that the pair had a history of rows.

The prosecution said the victim had flagged up a job vacancy to Denton but she went upstairs to bed because he “looked angry” on the evening of March 22nd.

She left him downstairs drinking but awoke at 6am to hear him returning through the front door.

She challenged where he had been and went downstairs when he got angry.

Alex Mann (prosecuting) said the defendant ran down the stairs and headbutted the victim in the face.

Jeremy Frain (defending) said: “The incident has not covered him in glory. He is chastened by it.”

Sentencing, magistrates gave him an 18-month supervision requirement and ordered him to pay £150 compensation and a £60 victim surcharge.
