Two Pendle business figures have featured alongside pop stars, fashion names and retailers in this year’s Sunday Times Rich List.

Former Primet High School student Ted Fort OBE came in at 713th, with a fortune of approximately £110 million, for his success with Simonstone engineering firm Fort Vale.

The keen sailor established the company in Colne in 1967, before moving to larger premises at Parkfield Works, Nelson, in September 1976.

Nelson-based Daisy Communications boss Matthew Riley was placed in 932nd place with an estimated £80 million fortune.

The businessman won Ernst & Young’s UK Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award in 2007.

Topping the annual list, which consists of the UK’s 1,000 richest people or families, was Arsenal FC shareholder Alisher Usmanov.
