A resident in training for the Pennine Lancashire 10K was left “really mad” after piles of rubbish were left dumped in a Trawden park.
Donna Oiller (31), an administrator at Burnley General Hospital, was running in Ball Grove Park at the weekend, when she came across the mess.
Among bin bags containing general household waste, Donna was also left concerned by clear containers with “highly toxic” labels.
The animal lover, who is raising funds for the Turner Syndrome Support Society, said: “There were about five or six bin bags of dumped rubbish that had split. That was bad enough, but there were clear containers with ‘highly toxic’ waste labels.
“There is wildlife up there. It got me really mad.”
Thanks to Donna’s report, Pendle Council were able to remove the larger items and arrange for litter-picking to be carried out. The council aim to remove fly-tipping within 55 hours, and waste services manager David Walker stated rubbish is usually removed quicker.
He added: “Ball Grove is a beautiful part of the borough enjoyed by many residents and it’s unfortunate that some people feel that it’s acceptable to leave litter and, in this case, tins, which may have been used by a surfacing contractor. Our staff are now checking the tins to try and find any evidence that will lead us to whoever dumped them.”
