A big thank you has been paid to the Chairman of Colne and District Cancer Research UK Committee — who has stepped down after 23 years.
At the group’s latest AGM meeting, John Dodd was handed a camellia plant and a bottle of port for his work with the fund-raising team. During his time as Chairman, Mr Dodd has helped to raise a staggering £232,000.
His position will now be taken on by Val Standage, and the role of secretary will be carried out by Margaret Cannon. Elaine Haworth was elected as treasurer, with the assistance of Linda Midgely.
Anyone is welcome to join the committee, who this year raised £6,006 for Cancer Research UK.
Mrs Cannon said: “Cancer Research UK desperately needs funds to eradicate this disease, which they believe is becoming more possible.
“Our group would welcome anyone to join us - we are a friendly bunch - or who is able to give some time to help with events.”
