Due to high demand, an additional confirmation service for 17 candidates has been held at Holy Trinity Church, in Colne.

The special event was attended by over 200 people, and included an organ contribution from principal conductor of the Colne Orchestral Society orchestra Peter Young, as well as singing from the combined Colne churches’ choir.

Singers were led by Colne Orpheus’ Margaret Allen.

Local teacher Julie Findon, along with Kelly Woods, was baptised at the beginning of the service.

The Bishop of Burnley, the Rt Rev. John Goddard gave a challenging sermon on loving like Jesus, and also threw water over the whole congregation at one point in the service to remind them of their own baptism.

A church spokesman said: “Bishop John was his usual relaxed and charismatic self.”
