Sean Dyche started his Turf Moor reign with two wins and two clean sheets at home to Wolves and Leeds United.

Charlie Austin was again prominent in both wins, scoring the second against Wolves after Martin Paterson had slotted home the opener after a delightful pass from Ben Mee.

And in a tight game against Leeds, Austin tipped the balance in Burnley’s favour as he found space in the box to head in a Kieran Trippier cross.

The next two games saw the start of the side’s woes with referees under Dyche.

Firstly, at Ipswich, the hosts went ahead as Daryl Murphy headed in after backing into Lee Grant, and though Sam Vokes equalised, DJ Campbell netted a late winner.

Trippier was then harshly dismissed after a Rob Hulse shot hit his hand on the line at home to Charlton, and though the subsequent penalty from Jonnie Jackson was saved by Grant, the Clarets, down to 10 men for 75 minutes, were downed by a Danny Haynes goal midway through the second half.

Burnley recovered to earn a seventh-successive win over high-flying Hull City at the KC Stadium, with the winning goal coming after a glorious move, finished in style by former Tigers midfielder Dean Marney.

With the derby against Blackburn on the horizon, Burnley played out a 1-1 draw at Barnsley five days beforehand.

Austin headed the Clarets into an early lead from a Ross Wallace corner, but the Tykes hit back through loan man Marcus Tudgay.
