The Alexandra are the first Nelson team to win the Lancashire 10-reds Snooker competiton in it’s 38-year existence.
The Alex raced into a surprise 3-0 lead against slight favourites First Bowl No. 1, but they had to sweat as the strong Blackpool side hit back to win the next two frames.
It was a position made for Steve Ormerod, who made no mistake. Giving 35 points start to M. Taylor, he drew steadily clear with an excellent, controlled performance.
Key frame in the opening frames was the win for Dave Drinkwater, who beat J Haslam after a re-spotted black.
Simon McKenna and Keith Ormerod junior had won the opening frames against minus five players, and it proved a solid foundation for victory.
The Alex could so easily have found themselves playing their own second team in the final, but they were knocked in the semi-finals.
Matches were played at the Claremont Conservative Club, Blackpool.
