A new fell race had it’s inaugural running in Pendle recently.
Starting and finishing in Wycoller, it involves a tough ascent of Boulsworth Hill.
Local organiser, 20-year-old Sarah Wilson, has always dreamed of organising a race in her own village, where she first started running in primary school races.
There were 71 runners who obviously liked the venue, and turned up in appalling weather of rain and gale force winds.
They are a hardy lot and everyone enjoyed themselves, particularly appreciating the shelter of the aisled barn in Wycoller before and after the race.
The race was won by Mark Addison, who comes from a famous fell running family, and had travelled down from Kendal.
Second was Ewan Brown (York Knavesmire) with Spencer Riley (Wharfedale) third.
First female was Barbara Lonsdale (CVFR), with Angela Donlan (Wharfedale) second and Christine Whitaker (Wharfedale) third.
Everyone who competed wants this to become an annual event, and with the continued support of local farmers, united utilities and Lancashire County Council, Sarah hopes to be back again next year.
