Season Review: April - Clarets sign off on a high

The Clarets ended the campaign in emphatic fashion, crafting victories over relegated Wolves and Mick McCarthy’s Ipswich Town to sign off from 2012/13 on a high.

Junior Stanislas found the back of the net on April Fools’ Day as the Clarets opened the month with a 1-1 draw at home to Nottingham Forest.

Jason Shackell, Chris McCann and Martin Paterson were all on the scoresheet as the Clarets beat Bristol City 3-1 at Turf Moor despite going a goal behind to Albert Adomah’s strike while Lee Grant denied Steven Davies from the spot.

It was a much different story on the road as the Clarets lost by single goals to Blackpool at Bloomfield Road and Leeds United respectively. The defeat at Elland Road forced manager Sean Dyche to accept that the Clarets were now looking over their shoulders as they sat just three points above the Championship drop zone.

Substitute David Edgar cemented a precious point for the Clarets against Cardiff City in front of the Sky cameras as the Bluebirds secured the title at Turf Moor.

And safety was confirmed the following week as Danny Ings and Paterson scored in either half in a 2-1 triumph at Molineux to send Wolves crashing towards successive relegations.

The season ended in style as Stanislas’s screamer and a late Paterson strike gave the Clarets a 2-0 win over Ipswich as they ended the season in 11th, which was three points and six places above rivals Blackburn Rovers.
