An idea to launch a residents-only parking scheme in Colne is finally coming to fruition after councillors agreed to provide £4,000 of funding.

Plans for Fothergill Street and part of Cragg Street were submitted back in 2011, after problems were highlighted in a Pendle Council survey.

Coun. Joe Cooney said: “Residents have been waiting well over two years for this, so we felt this was the best way to move this forward. We are, however, still pushing for Lancashire County Council to take back responsibility for the cost of such work.”

Responding Alan Capstick, highways manager for Pendle, said: “We’ve worked with Pendle Council on a number of residents’ parking schemes in recent years, to assess how the proposals may affect other parking in the area, draw up the legal order needed to introduce it and put in place new signs and road markings.

“Our budget is limited and to fund signs for all new residents’ parking schemes would have a significant impact on the money available for new signs and road markings in the Pendle area as a whole, but we will consider funding them on a case-by-case basis according to the budget available.”
