This was local football at its best, with late drama keeping the largest crowd to attend a Morrison Cup Final in recent years on their toes to the very end.

Both clubs deserve credit, and the crowd, numbering over 300, for their support of this West Craven derby.

Barnoldswick Town United were only formed last summer, and are members of the East Lancashire League.

They sealed their first piece of silverware in a penalty shoot out in the gathering gloom at Rolls-Royce.

With both defences on top form, chances were limited, however, Barnoldswick took the lead when Aiden Lee produced a unstoppable shot on the quarter hour.

Earby, roared on by a sizable following, levelled matters when Jake Palmer scored from close range before the break.

The second half continued in the same vein, with extra time being required.

With every one looking to a penalty shoot out, Barnoldswick dramatically regained the lead when substitute James Heaton crashed home.

But Earby mounted an attack and thought they had scored a equaliser only to be denied by an off-side flag.

The Earby Town manager and a player were sent from the field of play for dissent, but Earby made amends as they launched a ball into the Barnoldswick area, resulting in a defender handling the ball, and Palmer duly despatched the penalty to send the final to spot kicks, which Barnoldswick won 5-4 .

The successful skipper Keiron Lee was voted man of the match.

Full marks to referee Ray Torczuk and Assistants Chas Veighey and Tony Venn.

Tonight the Craven FA complete the season when the Blue Fin Craven Challenge Cup Final is played at Rolls (kick-off 6-30 p.m.) between Rimington and Bentham.
