A concerned citizen in the Whitefield Ward of Nelson is worried by the amount of rubbish being dumped on back streets and backyards around Macleod Street.
He wants the council to take more action and he said: “We’ve seen rats around, too.”
The man, who asked not to be named, said he raised the issue with the council six weeks ago but there is still lots of rubbish around.
Coun. Tony Greaves said: “Perhaps the council’s Nelson Committee and councillors ought to do their job like we do in Colne. It’s a problem in lots of parts of Nelson. Colne is a lot cleaner and tidier than Nelson.”
David Walker, the council’s waste services manager, said: “We have carried out enforcement activities on Macleod Street due to some properties having waste within the front and rear yard areas. I’m happy to say that those properties are now clear.
“Colleagues in our Housing Regeneration department keep an eye on the properties the council owns in Macleod Street and the surrounding area. They arrange for rubbish to be removed as soon as they become aware of it.” If you see fly-tipping taking place or have information on grot spots in the area, contact 661743, fill a form on web: www.pendle.gov.uk/forms or write on Contact Pendle on Facebook.
