Green-fingered youngsters are gearing up for this year’s Trawden Garden Festival by seeing who can deliver the best “pizza pot”.

Organisers behind this year’s event are giving children some compost and a variety of plants that can be used to create a pizza topping. Black buckets have been donated by Asda.

Among those getting on board are pupils from Trawden Forest Primary School, who have held a “pizza party” to carry out their planting.

The children have now taken their pots home to decorate in a “History, Horrible or Otherwise” theme.

Nadia Lickess, who sits on the Trawden Garden Festival Committee, said:“This year we had a grant that meant we could give the children four plants and the compost each.

“The whole village is talking about pizzas.

“There will be lots of prizes to be had.”

And teacher at Trawden Forest Primary School Emma Lee added: “The children loved the party.”

Pizza pot winners will be announced at the Trawden Garden Festival and Scarecrow Trail, which is set to take place between 10am and 4pm on Saturday, July 6th and Sunday, July 7th.

Anybody wanting to make their own pizza pot can contact Nadia by ringing 07521757080.
