Both fun and the sun were in the air above Salterforth on Sunday as the village hosted an annual celebration of entertainment.

Hundreds flocked to the village field helping raise well over £3,000 for Salterforth Village hall.

These numbers meant the attractive and upgraded tea tent selling sandwiches and cakes and a barbecue both sold out of food respectively.

Attractions on the day included a pair of clowns called the Rapide Brothers, a penalty shoot out with speed gun, the ever-popular fairground and a couple of donkeys providing rides for children, which was new for 2013, supplied by Mark Ineson.

Centrepiece to the fun day was the Salterforth drag which was keenly contested as always.

Event secretary, Judy Broughton, said: “It was a really, happy, friendly and busy day with lots of sunshine too.

“Thanks to all who helped to make this year’s fun day a tremendous success.

“This only achieved through their efforts and involvement – and in so doing they not only enable us to raise money for local causes, but also help to maintain a happy local community.”

The overall winner of the drag race was 13-year-old Callum Gee, of Barnoldswick, with a near record time of nine minutes 44 seconds. He won £10 in the Intermediate Male category.

Quickest adult male, with a time of nine minutes 57 seconds, was fun day committee member Scott Mitchell (38), of Salterforth, who won £15 in the Adult Male category.

Best female adult, and fourth place finisher overall, was Courtney Cowgill (17), of Earby, with a time of 10 minutes 34 seconds. She won £15 in the Adult Female category.

Eleven-year-old Sarah Oddie, of Barnoldswick, won £10 as best in the Intermediate Female category. She finished 17th overall with a time of 13 minutes 59 seconds.

Harriet King (8), of Barnoldswick, was the best placed competitor in the Junior Female Category winning her £5. She finished in 22nd place overall with a time of 16 minutes 28 seconds.

The Junior Male category was uncontested this year.
