Barnoldswick lost out to an inspired Read in the Ribblesdale League’s game of the day on Saturday.
The champions, third in the table, travelled to last season’s runners-up, lying second again, but went down by 57 runs.
Joe Marshall was the stand out performer in Read’s tally of 283-9 as he fired 88, while former Earby professional Jon Harvey added 66 to the total.
And Andrew Rushton ensured the home side defended their impressive innings, toppling five of the away side’s batsmen at the expense of 47 runs.
Marshall got Read off to a superb start with the bat, alongside Elliott Artingstoll, putting on 129 after the los of skipper and opener Kyle O’Connor.
Professional Imran Khalid saw off the pair in quick succession - the first of his 9-106 - but Harvey and Mohammed Jamal steadied the ship and rebuilt the innings, adding another 60.
Khalid continued his brilliant personal performance with 91 in reply, though Harvey got Read off to a great start with the ball before Rushton and Warren Eastham (4-67) took over.
It was a remarkable advert for the Ribblesdale League, and Barnoldswick look to get back on track at home to Ribblesdale Wanderers tomorrow.
