Police are appealing for witnesses following an assault in Nelson.
The incident took place between 10-30pm and 11pm on Saturday in Leeds Road.
The victim and offender were both in Leeds Road, near the junction with Barkerhouse Road. The victim, a 65-year-old Nelson man, sustained a serious head injury and is in a critical condition at the Royal Preston Hospital.
The offender is described as being white, aged between 18 and 22 and about 6ft. tall. He had short, light-coloured hair and was wearing a hooded jacket.
Det. Insp. Marie Haworth from Burnley CID said: “I would appeal to anyone who was in the area at the time and who witnessed what happened to come forward and contact the police.
“The victim remains in a critical condition in hospital and we need to find out exactly what happened and bring the person responsible to justice.”
