Pendle Stroke Group saved by Colne best friends

A Leader Times article has inspired two best friends to save a threatened Pendle group from closure.

Last month we reported that Pendle Stroke Group had held its last meeting, after four decades of helping stroke sufferers and their families.

But now, thanks to Colne duo Leila Neve (32), of Oak Street, and Lindsay Anderson (37), of Millbrook Court, the small group will officially be relaunched in September.

For Leila, the appeal was a subject particularly close to her heart, after her own daughter Charlotte (8) suffered a rare brain haemorrhage and a series of strokes last year.

The mum-of-two and Leader Times columnist, who is also considering opening a stroke group for children in the future, said: “We are both looking forward to doing something really positive.

“Lindsay and I decided that we would like to carry the group on, and not let it close.”

Leila and Lindsay will be taking over the Pendle Stroke Group reins from Dorothy Pollard and Kathleen Barr.

The group was set up back in 1973 by former Burnley General Hospital nurse Mollie Short.

Dorothy (73), from Barnoldswick, said: “Kathleen and I are absolutely thrilled to bits. We were completely blown over by Leila and Lindsay — they are so bubbly and positive, and so full of enthusiasm.

“We would also like to thank the Leader Times for putting the original article in, and helping us to have such a wonderful outcome.”

The relaunched Pendle Stroke Group will have meetings every fortnight, on a Thursday.

If anybody is willing to help transport members to and from the group’s sessions then Leila would love to hear from you.
