Earby fell victim to the weather and a spirited Whalley side on a weekend which saw their recent run of good form come to an end.
On Saturday against Euxton at Earby, Euxton elected to bat first on a day that rain was promised.
Skipper Winrow made 40, pro Van Duyker 38 and J. Proctor 39, but two interruptions for rain only allowed 30 overs and the innings closed at 151-6.
The rain fell again though and Earby were not given the chance to get their innings underway.
On Sunday Whalley won the toss and put Earby in to bat on a very green wicket.
The decision looked right as both openers, Matt Wilson and Iain Clarkson fell without scoring, although Clarkson’s wicket looked to have bounced in front of the keeper.
Fahid Rehman looked to build some sort of score with Aron Pollard but with just 19 on the board Pollard became the third out. Andrew Jaggers on his return to the first team dug in and kept the pro company as they added 64.
With the score on 83 both Jaggers (15) and Rehman (48) fell, but as has happened several times this year the tail wagged, Richard Craddock (41) batted to the end, Lee Parkinson (20) and keeper Matt Garner (20) took the innings total to a respectable 188-8.
Whalley’s pro Bandekar picked up 3-48 while S. Duckworth and Simon Gorton a couple of wickets apiece.
In reply Whalley started very cautiously against Craddock and Jake Hargreaves and after 15 overs the score had reached just 50.
Palmer and Lamb both built innings made of dot balls and boundaries and both reached their half centuries before Lamb fell to Danny Kegg with a smart stumping by Garner leaving them 112 -1.
Pro Bandekar was the new batsman and carried on in the same way. When Palmer was removed by Hargreaves, Earby looked at getting a fewfew bonus points and two balls later Hargreaves removed new batsman Kerr.
Davis then retired Hurt, Kearsley was trapped LBW again by Jake Hargreaves and this was most immediately followed by a run out of Dave Howard putting them on 154-5 and under a it of pressure.
Bandekar saw Whalley home with an undefeated 54 to claim the win though. Jake Hargreaves finished with three wickets and Danny Kegg and Lee Parkinson with one each. Whalley took the 10 points with Earby getting two.
