A HEADTEACHER who successfully completed a gruelling 69-mile cross-country run has smashed his fund-raising target.

Mr John Robertshaw (34), of Sacred Heart RC Primary School, Colne, aimed to raise £1,500 for Dementia UK, a national charity which supports his mum and is committed to improving the quality of life for all people affected by dementia.

However, thanks to generous supporters, the father-of-two’s fund-raising total has now reached an impressive £1,800.

Taking on the “UK’s most iconic ultra run” saw Mr Robertshaw run more than two marathons, 69 miles, over two days. He completed the iconic route, which took him along Hadrian’s Wall between Carlisle Castle and Gateshead Millennium Bridge in an exceptional 12 hours and 41 minutes, landing him in 29th place out of almost 1,000 competitors.

He was accompanied on three of the five stages by brother-in-law Ben Spedding.

Mr Robertshaw said: “The run was even more difficult than I had anticipated and there were many times I felt unable to carry on, but the level of support I have received helped to spur me on. So thank you to all those who have taken the time to sponsor me.”

Anyone still wishing to sponsor Mr Robertshaw can do so at www.justgiving.com/John-Robertshaw or by contacting the school on 864362.
