Sandygate Amateur Boxing Club made the long journey to Ireland recently with a 10 man squad against an Irish Select at Thurles Boxing Club.
Unbeaten prospect Smokin’ Joe Crawford (11) started things of against the much fancied S. Cairns (Loughmahon BC), winning every round. Flyweight Micky ‘Seaside’ Chippendale (16) boxed next verses Tipperary local J.Hamersley and won again by unanimous decision.
North West ABA Schoolboy Champion Brett Windle (14) narrowly lost out to Irish Champ N. O’Sulllivan while Charlie ‘Kilkenny Kid’ Martin (16) stopped Dublin-based Championship boxer E. Mills in the final round.
Next up for the Hargreaves Street boxing club saw the welcomed return to the ring of England International & former ABA Schoolboy National Champion ‘Samba’ Sam Tucker (16), who won is bout against local T. Donoughe by stoppage.
Reagan Driver (14) narrowly lost out on a majority points verdict against Dublin’s E. Batiuk and North West ABA Light Welterweight Champion Joe Knight (20) was at the end of the wrong decision against M. Noonan. Brandon Hartley (16) and Calum Rainey (17) both made the trip to Tipperary but lost out to the scales, weighing in too heavy.
