Clarets defender David Edgar was in action for Canada on Sunday as they suffered a shock 1-0 defeat at the hands of Martinique in their Concacaf Gold Cup opener at the Pasadena Rowbowl.
Edgar, who will link up with Burnley later in pre-season after the end of the tournament, played the full 90 minutes at right back as the Canucks went down to defeat courtesy of a stoppage time goal from Fabrice Reuperné from 25 yards.
Martinique are not recognised as an official member of FIFA, and this was something of a turn-up for Canada, who now face an uphill task to qualify from their group.
Their remaining Gold Cup fixtures see them travel to CenturyLink Field, Seattle, to take on Mexico on Thursday, before, on Sunday, at the Sports Authority Field, Denver, facing Panama.
Should Canada recover from their dismal start, the quarter-finals will be at the Georgia Dome at Atlanta and M & T Bank Stadium in Baltimore on July 20th and 21st.
The semi-finals will be on July 24th in Dallas at Cowboys Stadium, and the tournament concludes with the final in Chicago at Soldier Fieldon July 28th.
Burnley will hope Edgar is back sooner rather than later, with the Championship season kicking off on August 3rd.
